According to the Department of Veterans' Affairs concessions guidelines, DVA Gold Card holders in Queensland can access state concessions if their card shows a Queensland prefix (starting with 'Q'). If you've recently moved from another state, you'll need to update your details with DVA to receive a new card with the Queensland prefix before accessing local concessions.
Veterans with Gold Cards marked TPI (Totally and Permanently Incapacitated) or EDA (Extreme Disablement Adjustment) often qualify for additional benefits beyond standard Gold Card concessions.
Queensland Gold Card holders who receive the War Widow/er Pension or Special Rate TPI Pension can claim substantial energy rebates. The Queensland Government electricity rebate currently provides $386.34 per year (GST inclusive), applied as daily credits on your electricity bill.
Contact your electricity retailer directly – they'll process your application over the phone or send you the necessary forms. You'll need your DVA Gold Card details and your current electricity account number ready. The rebate applies automatically to future bills once approved.
The Federal Energy Bill Relief Fund also provides an extra $150 in 2025, delivered as two $75 quarterly instalments automatically applied to your electricity account.
Queensland's transport concessions vary significantly based on your Gold Card designation. Since 2024, all Translink public transport fares are now 50 cents per journey for everyone, making the previous 50% concession obsolete for standard Gold Card holders.
If your Gold Card is marked TPI or EDA with a Queensland prefix, you're entitled to free unlimited travel on Translink services. You'll need to apply for a TPI/EDA Veteran Travel Card through the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

War Widow/Widower Gold Card holders are entitled to four Queensland Rail Travel long-distance entitlements per calendar year. These can be used for eligible journeys and must be booked directly through Queensland Rail.

A 20% pensioner discount applies to the Emergency Management Levy for your principal residence. If you're already receiving a pensioner discount, this should apply automatically to the Class C levy. Otherwise, contact your council to make sure it's added.
In Queensland, concessional registration is available for one vehicle or one recreational boat if you hold a DVA Gold Card, an embossed TPI or EDA with a Queensland prefix, or if DVA confirms you meet the equivalent threshold of 70% disability under the VEA or 50+ impairment points and are assessed as eligible for the SRDP under the MRCA. Check with the TMR for current eligibility and application requirements.
Eligible veterans can claim GST exemption on a new car purchase once every two years or 40,000 kilometres. This benefit also extends to spare parts necessary for running the vehicle. Contact Queensland Transport and Main Roads for the specific application process.
