Expert Assistance With Your Acid Reflux Claim
We start with a conversation about your service history, your symptoms and how the condition affects your daily life. We'll explain whether you're likely eligible to claim, how DVA assesses GORD under MRCA and what evidence you'll need.
Once you're on board, we gather all existing medical evidence and complete the required DVA documentation. We connect you with gastroenterologists in your area who understand DVA assessment requirements and can provide the right evidence, including endoscopy results, treatment history and specialist reports. Your claim is lodged complete and ready for assessment.

I put off putting in my claims for a long time intimidated by the process doing it myself. I’m glad I made the decision to go with Veterans first. I have treatment plans for my conditions and a very generous payout thanks to the team.

The best firm to do PI claims specifically for defence members active or inactive.

Veterans First were extremely helpful in putting together my claim and dealt with DVA on my behalf. They kept me in the loop at all times throughout the whole process. Thanks to Fiona, Kim and the team at Veterans First. I highly recommend.

From the first phone call, they told me: "Personalised DVA claims. Done once. Done right." That stuck with me, and they backed it up the entire way through. They took something that could've been stressful and made it straightforward. And the result was nothing short of life changing. Highly recommended

Five stars still isn’t enough for Veterans First, so professional to deal with and made something so daunting and overwhelming a smooth and simple process. The outcome I got I don’t think I would’ve been able to get on my own.

I can’t recommend Veterans First Consulting highly enough. They submitted my claims to DVA and took care of organising all the required appointments. Their team was consistently supportive and made what could have been a stressful experience feel smooth and manageable.

My experience with Veterans First Consulting has been superb. Had I not made the initial call then I would still be suffering with medical issues. Their knowledge of and experience in dealing with DVA is second to none and without their assistance and guidance I would not be in the position that I am today.

The only reason I give Veterans First 5 stars is there isn't a higher option. They were incredible. They achieved an outcome I could not have gotten myself.Working with them was the best financial decision I have ever made. You don't need to deal with DVA directly. Well done team. From my family, thank you.

Leaving the ADF is very daunting, especially if it is due to medical matters. Veterans First consulting were there to support me from the very first phone call. I would have never been able to navigate through all the doctor’s appointments and discharge obligations without their help.

They walked me through the whole initial liability process and all conditions were accepted. During the permanent impairment stage, the Veterans First team were easy to talk to and I received maximum compensation. I was particularly impressed that when I asked to speak to the Director he called me within a few hours.

Why Veterans Choose Us for Acid Reflux Claims
Acid reflux, also known as GORD, may be considered by DVA when there is clear evidence linking the condition to service factors or another accepted condition. Our team understands how DVA assesses GORD claims and helps prepare your application with the right medical records, service details and supporting evidence.
GORD can affect sleep, eating, medication use and daily comfort, especially when symptoms are frequent or difficult to manage. We help document the severity, treatment history, symptom pattern and lifestyle impact of your condition, so DVA has the information needed to assess your claim.

Yes. If your gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) developed during service or was caused or worsened by service-related factors, you may be eligible for recognition and support under MRCA. The condition must be severe enough to warrant regular medical treatment, as outlined in the DVA Statement of Principles. Learn more in our What Can I Claim From the DVA? guide.
You'll need medical evidence showing your GORD diagnosis, ideally confirmed by endoscopy, along with documentation linking the condition to your service. Common service connections include long-term NSAID or other medication use for service-related injuries, changes in weight or physical activity linked to service and accepted mental health conditions such as PTSD, anxiety or depression. Secondary claims are also possible if your GORD developed or worsened because of medication for an already accepted condition like PTSD or a musculoskeletal injury. Find out more in our How to Make a DVA Claim guide.
GORD is assessed under Chapter 6 of GARP M, which covers gastrointestinal impairment. The points you receive depend on the severity of your symptoms, how well they respond to treatment and their impact on your daily function. A gastroenterologist familiar with DVA requirements will assess your condition and document the level of impairment. Refer to our DVA Impairment Points Table guide.
Yes. GORD can often be claimed as a secondary condition. If medications for an accepted condition, such as anti-inflammatories for a back injury or antidepressants for PTSD, have caused or worsened your reflux, you may be able to claim it as secondary. The DVA Statement of Principles also recognises that certain mental health conditions, including PTSD, anxiety and depression, can contribute to GORD worsening over time. Discover more in our DVA Permanent Impairment guide.
The permanent impairment stage of your claim usually takes around 12 months or more, depending on your individual circumstances and DVA’s current workload. From initial submission through to final outcome, the full permanent impairment claims journey typically takes around 18–24 months. One of the most common delays is the initial assignment of a delegate, which can take up to six months. Learn more in our DVA Claims Timeframe guide.
Once your GORD is accepted as a service-related condition, your Veteran White Card will cover treatment specifically for that condition, including GP visits, specialist appointments and medications. If you reach 60 or more impairment points across all accepted conditions, you may qualify for a DVA Gold Card, which covers treatment for all medical conditions.
If your GORD was previously accepted but has since gotten worse, for example, you've developed oesophageal stricture, Barrett's oesophagus (assessed as a separate condition) or increased symptom severity, you can apply for a reclassification of your impairment points. This reassessment reflects your current medical circumstances and how DVA assesses your condition. Learn more in our guide to how DVA assessments work.
