Yes. If your PTSD is linked to your ADF service, you can claim entitlements under MRCA, which may include permanent impairment benefits and access to treatment, when the condition is accepted as service-related. DVA accepts PTSD as a service-related condition when there's evidence connecting your symptoms to events during your military career. Yes. Through Non-Liability Health Care (NLHC), many current and former ADF members can access fully funded mental health treatment, including psychology, psychiatry and counselling, without waiting for a claim to be accepted. If you’ve completed at least one day of continuous full-time service (or meet other NLHC criteria), you may be eligible to apply for a Veteran White Card that covers mental health treatment. DVA requires evidence linking your PTSD to a specific event or circumstances during your service. This typically includes your service records, incident reports where available and a psychiatrist's assessment confirming the diagnosis and service connection. PTSD claims, especially those involving permanent impairment, often take 12 months or longer from lodgement to final decision. Many complex claims fall in the 18–24 month range, depending on DVA workloads, the complexity of your service history and how quickly medical assessments can be completed. PTSD compensation is set by DVA under legislation and depends on your impairment points and lifestyle rating. The amount is different for every veteran and is based on the severity of your condition and how it affects your daily functioning.
