Yes. Plantar fasciitis is one of the 20 most commonly accepted conditions for DVA claims under MRCA and DRCA, and it is covered by DVA’s Provisional Access to Medical Treatment (PAMT) program. This means you may be able to access treatment for plantar fasciitis while your claim is being considered. Your claim still needs to meet the relevant Statement of Principles (SoP) criteria, and each case is assessed on its own evidence.

DVA uses Statements of Principles (SoPs) to assess whether your plantar fasciitis is connected to service. For plantar fasciitis, the SoPs recognise factors such as long-term running or jogging, repetitive weight-bearing exercise at moderate or higher intensity, prolonged weight-bearing on hard surfaces or wearing footwear with inadequate cushioning during weight-bearing exercise, provided these activities meet specific thresholds for duration and timing before the onset or worsening of your symptoms. Plantar fasciitis is assessed under the lower limb function tables in GARP. The exact points depend on how significantly the condition affects your foot function, mobility and daily activities. Absolutely. Plantar fasciitis commonly occurs alongside other service-related conditions, particularly flat feet, osteoarthritis, knee injuries and lower back pain. An altered gait from heel pain often contributes to problems further up the body. The full permanent impairment claims process under MRCA often takes around 18–24 months from initial liability through to your permanent impairment outcome, depending on the complexity of your conditions and DVA’s current workload. Once your condition is accepted, DVA can fund clinically required treatment for plantar fasciitis through your White Card. This can include GP visits, specialist consultations and allied health services such as physiotherapy and podiatry, as well as prescribed aids and equipment like orthotics, where appropriate for your accepted condition. Plantar fasciitis is also one of the 20 conditions covered under the Provisional Access to Medical Treatment (PAMT) program, which means you may be able to access funded treatment while your claim is still being processed.

If your plantar fasciitis was previously accepted and has since worsened, you can apply for a reclassification of your permanent impairment.
